This area is a walker's paradise. Randonees are clearly marked and take you every whichway through woods, and in July, past fields of glorious sunflowers. You might see tobacco growing in June and almost certainly find wild orchids in profusion in April and May. Later in the year the woods are full of sweet chestnuts. There are many interesting archeological sites and caves to visit in the area as well as the fascinating museum of Vesuna in Perigueux. Supermarkets and good restaurants to suit all pockets are only a few minutes driveaway in either Mussidan, St. Astier or Riberac, where there are also weekly colourful markets and music in the summer.

There is a superb 27 hole golf course some 35 kms south at Chateau des Vigiers on the outskirts of Ste Foy la Grande and several other courses within easy driving distance including the delightful 18 hole municipal course at Perigueux, only a 20 minute drive away.

There are daily low cost flights into Bergerac (about 35 minutes by car) from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Exeter, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Southampton and London Stanstead. Easy Jet and BMI Baby fly into Bordeaux, the second convenient airport servicing the area. The channel ferry ports of Caen and St. Malo are a seven hour drive away and there is a further two hours or so on the journey if you cross the channel by the shortest routes.

The two bedroomed  (one en suite) apartment could be reasonably available for a long winter let if you are house hunting in the area. Wifi internet access is freely available. Canine friends are welcomed along with their well-behaved owners at the peaceful and secluded Le Treuil.

The main house and attached apartment are exceptionally beautiful conversions of old forestry buildings and tobacco barns surrounded by flowery patio areas and gardens for alfresco dining or just lazing.

Inside there is a wealth of magnificent beams and exposed stonework, the work of local artisans. Both properties have all "mod cons" and both are available for letting in season.
The pretty hill village of Douzillac, overlooking the peaceful river L'Isle, is just a short way through the woods. Canoes and kayaks are readily available for hire along the river banks and fishing permits can be obtained on request. Wine buffs can head south by car and will soon be in the Bergerac wine area. St. Emilion, a World Heritage Site village is also close by. Head down the A89 and Bordeaux, France's second largest port and the cathederal of wine, is only 90 minutes away.
Le Treuil is a secluded holiday retreat set among the fields and woodlands of the southern central Dordogne in Aquitaine, France.
